Pentacon F is a version of Contax. Contax S is 35mm SLR camera launched by the VEB Zeiss Ikon in 1949. Plans to produce such a camera Zeiss Ikon had since the end of 1930, and the introduction of the pentaprism viewfinders was a key element of the project. However, the outbreak of World War II prevented the implementation of these ideas.
The new camera was developed under the direction of Wilhelm Winzenburg. It was an innovative design with fixed pentaprism finder. For the construction of the shutter slit used rubbered fabric. The camera lens is mounted on a 42×1 mm thread, introduced by Praktiflex and which has become a widely used standard. Unfortunately, the Contax S structure is not very robust.
A typical lens was black anodized Biotar 2/5,8 T production of Carl Zeiss Jena. In 1952, the camera was replaced by the Contax D, and in the years 1956-1961 produced Contax F Pentacon also branded F.
In Contaxie F/F Pentaconie introduced.
Automatic iris control by pressing the trigger. Contax F first to introduce this solution.

  • Larger mirror
  • Larger scroll back.

Pentacon F production was transferred to the Kamera Werke in Niedersiedlitz.
The camera is really beautiful and has a very interesting mechanism for the shutter. Noteworthy is fitting roller blinds, partly on the screws, not only on the adhesive such as the Praktica. However, very delicate rope drive is a mirror.
Data of my collection
I bought the body s / s 169007 complete, but with damaged curtains unsevered mirror drive cable.
I bought it for 32 PLN.
Replacing roller blinds is described in   http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-87.html . I think it will be run.
