Kiev-4 (Киев-4) is a 35mm rangefinder film camera manufactured by Arsenal Factory, in Kiev, Ukraine, former USSR.
The first models of Kiev manufactured in 1947, while the model produced Kiev-4 (with built-in light meter selenium) in the years 1957-1979. The Kiev was built on the basis of the German camera Contax II and Contax III (with built-in light meter) produced since 1936.
Kiev 4 was produced in 4 types and 8 subtypes, and is very similar to the Kiev-3. Different models can only recognize the details of the design because the manufacturer has not placed signs of model on the body.
The camera is robust and quite heavy, it weighs 0.75 kg without case.
The camera is equipped with a focal plane shutter with metal shutter with vertical movement and during the „B” and 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500; 1/1000 s, has a long base rangefinder (90mm), self-timer, flash sync socket and frame counter.
Was sold with lenses:

  1. Jupiter-8M 50mm f / 2, or
  2. Helios 53mm f/1.8-103

Data of my collection:

  • Kiev 4 s / n 7436288
  • Jupiter-8M 50mm f / 2 s / n 7460536
  • Manufactured in 1974 (based on the warranty card)

I got efficient camera from Bogdan. It required only minor cosmetic fixes. Along with the camera I got the original metal lens cap, carrying case, original manual and a warranty card. It is already second Kiev in my collection.
