FED factory was founded in Kharkov, Ukraine FED factory in a former orphanage in 1920, later given the name Felix E. Dzerzhinsky, the founder of the NKVD. His initials are the name of the plant – the Fed.
Following the introduction of the Leica II in 1932, the Soviet leaders stopped imports of photographic and instructed the factory to create your own factory FED Leica version. FED Model 4, rangefinder camera, was produced by the FED factory in Kharkov, Ukraine in the years 1964-1980. It has interchangeable lenses, mounted on a Leica M39 thread.
