Exakta Varex IIa en

Exacta Varex IIa is a 35mm SLR camera from Ihagee Kamerawerk Steenbergen & Co., Dresden, a former DDR and produced in the years 1960-63. Details of the list of all production versions of Exact I on the basis of which I have determined the version possessed on 5.2. The model Varex IIa produced a total of 65,600 pieces.
Exakta belonged to cameras that were very well equipped, it was actually the most expensive SLR camera available in stores in the communist era.
Selected features and parameters

  • Releasing the trigger lock using the lever on the left side of the lens collar
  • Focusing: using the matting on the Fresnel lens, the lens ring and additionally on the ring, a scale showing the distance and depth of field was delimited
  • View finder: a translucent pentagon prism with a mount for the aiming lens
  • Horizontal crevice shutter,
  • Shutter speeds:

1) Fast speeds 1/25 -1000, + T, B, set by the knob on the left side of the top cover,
2) Slow speed 1/5 – 12, set by the knob on the right top cover

  • Film transport from right to left (unusual), quick pull with lever.
  • Self-timer:

1) for high shutter speed: after the shutter is pressed and high speed is selected, turn the slow speed knob to the stop and set it as one of the red numbers
2) for slow shutter speed: set the quick dial to B and set low shutter speed and delay with the right dial, select the shutter speed in the range 1/5 – 12, after releasing the trigger shutter delay is 13 seconds.

  • Mechanical frame counter up to 36
